Wacken Open Air (W:O:A:) to odbywający się na świeżym powietrzu festiwal muzyki heavy metalowej. Impreza organizowana jest nieprzerwanie od 1990 roku w małej miejscowości Wacken w Schleswig-Holstein w północnych Niemczech. Pierwsza edycja W:O:A była małą imprezą z występami lokalnych niemieckich zespołów, obecnie trwa cztery dni i jest uważana za największy festiwal muzyki heavy metalowej na świecie.

Wacken Open Air ma bardzo zróżnicowaną widownię przez co nazywany jest Festiwalem Międzynarodowym, ponieważ oprócz wykonawców z całego świata na imprezę zjeżdżają się również fani z różnych zakątków globu. Według statystyk ponad 30% widowni stanowią cudzoziemcy, gdzie 10% osób nie pochodzi z Europy. Na tak duże zainteresowanie festiwalem wpływ może mieć nie tylko muzyka, która jest głównym elementem przyciągającym ludzi z całego świata, ale i przyjazna atmosfera, która współtworzona jest przez mieszkańców wioski Wacken mających bezpłatny wstęp na festiwal za co odwdzięczają się oferując schronienie i pomoc przyjeżdżającym na imprezę fanom.
